7 tips to capturing the ultimate travel photo.

Updated: Aug 9, 2019

The time I gained interest in photography I would ask every photographer :

How do I take good photos?

I was lucky to have few good photographers as my friends. With their guidance and help I now try to take much better photos that I was not able to take before.

1) Practice everyday

The best way to hone up your skills is to practice a lot. Try to shoot as much as you can, where ever you want, whatever you feel like - it doesn’t matter what. With time, your technical skills will improve, thus improving your ability to tell stories out of the picture. Experiment everyday !!

2. Take advantage of the light

Use the source of light as your advantage. You can use the light from artificial source like lamp or from sun to make your photos look good ! See how the light interacts with the scene and the subject. If the light is highlighting an area or casting interesting shadows, it will make your photos extraordinary.

3. Fill in the dark areas using Flash.

It is not a rule to use the flash during night or indoor. If you see during day time the shadows are really sharp and can create dark patches on the subject. By adding flash light you can get rid of those dark patches and can create an even exposure.

4. f/4

f/4 is the aperture you should use while using wide aperture with a long lens (200mm-400mm). By this you will be able to separate the subject from the background. This will help the subject stand out.

5.Take your time !

Take time to think what you want to capture before pressing the shutter. See what you want to include in your picture. Think about the light source.

6. Framing

Frame your scene or your subject with a window or an arch that will lead your viewer's eye to focus on your subject !

7. Make your own rules.

At the end when you know some really good rules to take interesting photographs, you must make your own rules in capturing eye pleasing photos. Experiment ! Have fun ! Learn from your mistakes. Make your own rules. I’d love to hear them.

Go ahead and shoot !!
